hmmm. I love forests in Second Life, and I especially love forests in Real Life, but planting trees on my behalf in SL just isn't enough.
Lamentably, "a medium-sized server has a similar carbon footprint to an SUV running at 15 MPG." (Source: http://digital-lifestyles.info/2007/12/04/uk-it-usage-rivals-airlines-in-carbon-emissions/) so this idea is not exactly helping.
Every time I think of buying more land in SL, this is the primary reason I hold back.
I'd much prefer that they made a contribution to the one of the many organizations in Real Life that plant real trees, thereby cutting down on the growth of greenhouse gas emissions.
At any rate, thanks for sharing this with us, Malburns.

Interesting.
I'm working on a project right now, should be released middle of next week, where we're encouraging folks to carbon offset their Second Lives.
We're converting L$ paid in-world, into £, into real trees & a planting programme in the UK, into making a genuine RL difference.
I'll Twitter you the SLURL when it's up Mal. L$3000 buys 12 months clear conscience ;-)
